Mead family papers, 1764-1897.

Papers from several generations of the Mead family of Greenwich, Connecticut. The oldest pieces are from the Revolutionary era, and include a copy of a call for soldiers in 1776 by Governor Jonathan Trumbull. The Civil War documents include a petition to form a company of rifleman and muster rolls from that company, headed by Daniel M. Mead. The collection also includes letters written home during the war. Other items include commissions signed by assorted governors of Connecticut. One diary is included, kept by Susan A. E. Mead. Along with entries about her family, there is also significant mention of the Stillson Benevolent Society. Susan Mead served for a time as the Society's treasurer. Rounding out the collection are more family letters, a 1764 probate document, property deeds, and a certificate demonstrating ownership of a share of the Greenwich library. There are also two account books, one kept first by Richard Mead (a farmer) and later by his son, Thomas A. Mead; and another kept by Dr. Amos Mead. Dr. Amos Mead treated many local residents and also served as a Justice of the Peace. The names of couples who were married before him are listed in the back of the book.

0.75 linear foot (1 box and 2 volumes).
